21 OUTS is a grunge/blues/rock/alternative trio formed by multi-instrumentalist Philip Cassidy in July 2007. Since forming the band 21 OUTS has been presented to audiences all over Ireland and in the form of many different line ups.
"I'm tired of the notion of the perfect band, everybody has their things going on and because I'm the one writing all the songs it's easy for members to come and go. It bothered me at first but now I look at in a positive way. It's got it's pros and cons but i've grown to like the idea of a fluctuating line up, It's certainly more realistic..."
In July 2008 an earlier incanrnation of the band went to the studio to record the debut album, pre production began in August 2007 and although the line has seen some changes Philip has been visiting the studio since and now it is finally finished and will be released in 2010. At the SU Sessions Philip will be joined by Kenneth 'Bushy' Coyne of The Brno Chairs on Bass and Patrick Brennan on drums.
"Bushy was our sound engineer when we started gigging in August 2007... he's got a group called The Brno Chairs (another fluctuating setup) and he asked me to play drums with him. We got to know eachother quite well and really clicked musically. One night in March 2008 when 21 OUTS was a 4 piece my guitar player and bass player both couldn't make a gig, I was gonna cancel but Bushy called in and said 'Sure i'll do it...i know pretty much all the tunes anyway'. The gig went great and even got a nice review and that's when i decided i wanted to continue as a 3 piece. Bushy has been helping me out on and off since. Patrick got in touch a while back... 21 OUTS were booked for a festival in September 2009, we had a jam and I just threw him in the deep end, he turned up, we barely knew eachother and just played. He's been drumming with me since..."

“Lead guitarist and singer Phil has a fine set of lungs, all the better to be blasted out in a kind of strangling yelp. Fan f***ing tastic.
