JP Ryan’s introduction to music is influenced by numerous and varied artists that constitute a variety of musical genres, the strongest influences of all being the abundance of Irish acts that have graced the airwaves and live music scene over the years. The prelude of JP’s musical endeavours were very much influenced by old Irish folk songs and after graduating from art college in the mid nineties, JP integrated music and art into his profession in the area of Art and Health, in tandem with playing live music on a leisurely basis. Continuing his education, JP went on to study Art Therapy completing a Postgraduate Dip. awarded from Hertfordshire University, followed by an MA from Crawford in Ireland. The implementation of creative expression through music and art has been an integral part of JP’s remit, not only through clinical application, but also from a personal perspective and this is where the springs of such songwriting derive. Described by Hotpess Music Magazine as having songs and a performance style that cover a wide emotional range, In the past JP has feature on the ‘Celtic Connection’ Compilation album featuring a host of emerging acts. He has opened for Rod Steward, playing in a line up that also included Natasha Bedingfield, Jack L, Kieran Goss. JP has also played support to additional acts such as Juliet Turner, UK act, Ezio, ‘Squeeze’ singer/songwriter, Chris Diffard and Ollabelle and has recently become part of the Outbound and Noteborn music roster, with a song from ‘Dancing With Anima’ soon to be included in a forthcoming feature film by award winning director, Harry Sparks. JP Ryan’s debut album, ‘Dancing With Anima’ consists of a host of some of the best musicians Ireland has to offer and encompasses songs covering a broad span of time. Recorded in Ireland and mastered in the US by renowned Mastering Engineer, Bob Katz, the album is set to be released this year.
