In 2005, we came home from our six-month tour of America! Well actually, we were meant to go on a six-month tour, but it turned into three years. Our plan to go up and down the east-coast, hitting a few major cities in the process, in fact turned into a tour of every back-water town in all America, and some major cities also. Great friends were made in Albany, New York, Boston, and San Francisco, and some enemies were made in every place in between. We recorded an album with Barrett Martin from Seattle rockers The Screaming Trees producing, and Rob’s dreams came true when REM axeman Peter Buck decided to pop into the studio and lay down some guitar. A few months later in Austin, Texas, he would actually jump up on stage with us and play … whilst we shouted the chord changes to him!! The record was made in San Francisco and mixed in Studio Litho in Seattle. Along this journey, we gave a free roof-top performance in up-state new York (heard that before), slid backwards down Red Rocks in Colorado in our van and trailor in the snow, (prayers were said), had a film crew join us on all these adventures, and in typical rock fashion, we even had a major illness whilst on the road…Pericarditis anyone??? Then, our quartet became a trio, and we came home. The three of us formed OrphanCode. We made a demo, it got heard by a label, and they put us into the studio to make an album, with long time collaborator, Ger McDonnell (The Cure, Manic Street Preachers) Producing. The first single “Last Dance” was given away as a free download resulting in almost 4000 downloads, and a thumbs up from 2FM who play-listed the song, along with Channel 6 who supported the video on its shows Popscene and Nightshift. With a second single imminent and the album to follow OrphanCode are a band on the rise…well, we like to think so…
